Senator Eileen Flynn tapestry -Little Museum of Dublin

Tapestry illustration of Senator Eileen Flynn
The Little Museum of Dublin
It was an amazing experience working with The Little Museum of Dublin to create this illustrated tapestry depicting the life of Senator Eileen Flynn. A long time activist for the rights of travellers, minorities, education, and the REPEAL movement, she is the first Traveller to have been elected to the Irish Dail. I learnt a lot about her life and work doing this project, it was a genuinely very inspiring experience.

The tapestry is framed through what I saw as the three key areas of senator Flynns life, her heritage as an Irish traveller, her education, and her career in activism. I took influence from traditional woven tapestry motifs and combined them with contemporary imagery, to create a final illustration that honours a modern hero in a traditional museum setting.
My digital illustration was meticulously and beautifully emulated by mural painter Jorge Ruiz of Horhay Design. The final mural is now a large scale and permanent exhibition piece in the museum.
